U.S. Senators Tim Scott and Lindsey Graham have introduced a resolution to designate October 6-12, 2024, as "Religious Education Week." The initiative aims to celebrate the significance of religious education and highlight the role of schools and organizations involved in religious instruction.
Senator Scott emphasized the importance of parental choice in education: “Each year, countless families across the country choose to enroll their children in religious education,” he stated. “This resolution reaffirms that choice and emphasizes our commitment to ensuring religious schools can thrive alongside their secular counterparts. Families deserve the freedom to educate their children in the way they see fit, and religious schools are key in making that possible.”
The resolution has garnered support from several senators, including John Barrasso, Marsha Blackburn, Mike Braun, Katie Britt, Shelley Moore Capito, John Cornyn, Tom Cotton, Kevin Cramer, Mike Crapo, Steve Daines, Bill Hagerty, Josh Hawley, Cindy Hyde-Smith, John Kennedy, James Lankford, Cynthia Lummis, Roger Marshall, Markwayne Mullin, James Risch, Marco Rubio, Eric Schmitt, Rick Scott from Florida (R-Fla.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), and Todd Young (R-Ind.).
Additionally backing this resolution are organizations such as Lutheran Center for Religious Liberty; Coalition for Jewish Values; Foundation for American Christian Education; School Time Bible Ministries; Association of Christian Schools International; Agudath Israel of America; and Catholic Education Partners Inc.
