84 Lumber invests $13.4 million for new plant creating jobs in South Carolina

84 Lumber has announced the establishment of its second component plant in South Carolina, selecting Clarendon County for this expansion. The $13.4 million investment is expected to create 78 new jobs in the region.

The new facility will be located at 2678 Ram Bay Road in Manning and will serve as a floor and roof truss manufacturing site. This expansion targets the coastal Carolina markets, including Savannah, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, and surrounding areas. The first component plant by 84 Lumber in South Carolina was opened in December 2023 in Lugoff.

Ken Kucera, Vice President of Installed Sales and Manufacturing at 84 Lumber, stated: “We’re thrilled to be opening our new component plant in Manning, South Carolina. This facility is an investment in both the future of the company and the local community. We’re bringing a dedicated workforce and cutting-edge technology. We’re excited for the bright future as we continue to grow.”

Governor Henry McMaster commented on this development saying: “84 Lumber’s decision to invest $13.4 million in South Carolina is another victory for our state’s thriving business community. We are proud to welcome the company to Clarendon County and look forward to the positive impact it will have in the years ahead.”

Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III added: “Congratulations to 84 Lumber and Clarendon County on this announcement that will bring 78 new jobs to South Carolina. This investment will contribute greatly to the local economy, and we are excited about the company’s expansion in our state.”

State Forester Scott Phillips noted: “84 Lumber’s sizable reinvestment in South Carolina represents a strong vote of confidence for the state’s healthy and abundant forest resource."

Dwight L. Stewart Jr., Chairman of Clarendon County Council, expressed enthusiasm by stating: “There’s no better way to mark the end of summer than by welcoming a new business to Clarendon County."

Matthew Shaffer, Central SC Alliance Chairman said: “Having grown up in Pennsylvania and witnessed 84 Lumber’s positive local impact...I am thrilled to welcome them to Clarendon County."

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to this project and awarded a $200,000 Rural Infrastructure Fund grant for building improvements.
