South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the arrest of Justice Miller Janssen, 33, of Goose Creek, S.C., on three charges related to the sexual exploitation of minors. The arrest was made by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators from the Goose Creek Police Department, with assistance from the Attorney General's Office, also a member of the state's ICAC Task Force.
The investigation began following a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), which led investigators to Janssen. Authorities state that Janssen possessed files containing child sexual abuse material.
Janssen was arrested on May 29, 2024. He faces three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in the third degree (§16-15-410), each a felony offense punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment.
The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General's Office. Attorney General Wilson emphasized that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is considered a more accurate term for these crimes compared to "child pornography," as it does not imply any consent on behalf of the minor involved. Globally, CSAM is being adopted to reflect this distinction more clearly.
