WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.), member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, introduced a resolution reiterating Israel’s right to self-defense and condemning recent statements from U.S. lawmakers, which interfere in Israel’s sovereign electoral process.

“Hamas is the reason the conflict started on October 7th and the reason it continues today,” said Senator Scott. “Israel has every right to defend itself from this brutal terrorist organization that raped and murdered innocent civilians and continues to hold more than 100 people hostage – including several American citizens. I will always stand with Israel as it seeks to confront and eradicate the threat of terrorism.”

The resolution is cosponsored by a group of Senators including Tom Cotton, John Cornyn, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and others, who stand in solidarity with Israel in its fight against terrorism.

It is the longstanding policy of the United States to support Israel’s inherent right to self-defense, as highlighted by various bipartisan legislation. The Senate recently reaffirmed this policy following the terrorist attacks by Hamas in 2023.

In response to recent calls for elections in Israel by the Senate's top Democrat, Senator Scott has continued to show unwavering support for Israel and opposition to Iranian-backed terrorism.

The full text of the resolution introduced by Senator Scott can be found for further reference.

Senator Scott’s consistent stance in support of Israel’s right to self-defense underscores the importance of standing against terrorism and upholding international security.
