U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) hosted a Black History Month reception at the United States Capitol, welcoming prominent African American conservatives to celebrate the achievements of conservatism within the African American community. Senator Scott was joined by former Secretary of the Commonwealth of Virginia and Heritage Foundation President Kay Coles James.
In his remarks at the reception, Senator Scott emphasized the importance of acknowledging the past struggles while also recognizing the progress that has been made. He stated, “One of the things we have to do is have this conviction that all things are still very much possible, and they are more possible today than they have ever been.”
Prior to the reception, Senator Scott, as the top Republican on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, hosted a roundtable with Black investors and business founders to discuss ways to improve minority communities’ access to capital and wealth-building opportunities. Senator Scott highlighted his legislative framework, the Empowering Main Street in America Act, aimed at boosting capital formation and increasing access to U.S. capital markets in minority communities.
Senator Scott’s resolution commemorating Black History Month and the contributions of Black Americans throughout United States history was approved by the Senate earlier this month.
Throughout his tenure in the U.S. Senate, Senator Scott has been a strong advocate for initiatives that promote opportunities for Black Americans.
