The South Carolina State Senate Committee on Labor, Commerce, and Industry will hold a hearing on S.910 on Wednesday, February 7, 2023 at 9 a.m. in Room 307 of the Gressette Building.

The hearing was announced in a letter from Committee Chairman Tom Davis (R-Beaufort) to committee members Sen. Katrina Shealy (R-Lexington), Sen. Wes Climer (R-Rock Hill), Sen. Ronnie Sabb (D-Greeleyville), and Sen. Kevin Johnson (D-Clarendon).

S.910 would place a number of restrictions on lenders operating in South Carolina, reported Palmetto State News earlier this week.

Among other measures, the bill, sponsored by state Sen. Tom Davis (R-Beaufort), would prohibit installment lenders from using text messaging to market to consumers — something Dan Walters, CEO of Greenville-based Credit Central, LLC, said is already prohibited under the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

S.910 was introduced on January 9 and is sponsored by Sen. Davis, as well as Senate Minority Leader Brad Hutto (D-Orangeburg), and Sabb, the Deputy Minority Leader. Additional sponsors are Sen. Michael Gambrell (R-Anderson) and Sens. Shealy and Johnson.
