Of the 5,078,903 people living in South Carolina in 2021, 51.3% (2,604,844) were women and 48.7% (2,474,059) were men, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained by Palmetto State News.

Data showed the average age for women in South Carolina in 2021 was 41 years, higher than the national average of 40 for women. Meanwhile, South Carolina's male population stands at an average age of 39 years, placing them higher than the US average of 38.

According to census data, women aged 18 and over outnumbered men in the same age group by 62,603, totaling 1,565,103 individuals. Meanwhile, in the 65 and over group, there were 404,922 men and 496,575 women.
