(COLUMBIA, S.C.) – South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced that on June 28th, Scott Hunter pleaded guilty in Pickens County to one count of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, 2nd Degree (distribution) and three counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, 3rd degree (possession) in front of The Honorable Ned Miller.

On August 24, 2017, Special Investigator Kevin Atkins with the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office conducted a proactive investigation involving an online file-sharing network regarding the online distribution and possession of files depicting child sexual abuse material. Special Investigator Atkins downloaded child sexual abuse material from an IP Address, which traced back to the defendant. A search warrant was executed, his devices were forensically examined, and child sexual abuse material was located on two of those devices.

Judge Miller sentenced Hunter to five years in prison. He will receive credit for 1,345 days served. He will have to register as a Tier II sex offender. He agreed to forfeit his computer equipment seized during the search warrant.

Assistant Attorney General Bethany Miles prosecuted the case for the state.
