City of Myrtle Beach issued the following announcement on February 8.
Good news for players, parents and coaches! Myrtle Beach's Grand Park Athletic Complex is having the turf replaced and receiving other upgrades, beginning this week. The turf will be replaced on fields 1, 2 and 3. The big news is we are converting the clay around the pitching areas and home plate to field turf. The advantage? It's more "weather-proof," with a quicker turnaround during bad weather. A new temporary fencing system is also going up with in-ground sleeves at the standard distance for youth baseball and all ages of girls' softball. This is the first field surface replacement for the complex at a cost of $1.5 million. The tentative completion date is mid-April. The remaining six fields are on schedule to get upgrades in the next two years.
