City of Myrtle Beach: Myrtle Beach Fire Department Hits New Record For Calls For Service

City of Myrtle Beach issued the following announcement on February 1.

Did you know... That the Myrtle Beach Fire Department answered 15,905 calls for service during 2021, a new record? Of those, 10,335 were medical calls (EMS and Rescue, including car wrecks), by far the most common reason that anyone called the Fire Department. Of the remaining calls, 1,658 were false alarms; 1,706 were general service calls; 1,628 were “good intent” calls; 191 were for hazardous materials; 23 were for special incidents or natural disasters; and only 354 were for actual fires of any kind, including 99 building fires. During the year, the Fire Department conducted 4,725 fire inspections and discovered 6,251 code violations.
