East Cooper Regional Medical Center issued the following announcement on January 17.

Only clinic in South Carolina to earn accreditation in both detailed anatomy and fetal echocardiogram

Mount Pleasant, S.C. – East Cooper Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialists, a part of East Cooper Medical Group, recently earned ultrasound practice accreditation from the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine in the areas of detailed anatomy, fetal echocardiogram and obstetric-second trimester. The clinic is the only clinic in South Carolina to receive accreditation for both detailed anatomy and fetal echocardiogram.

“This accreditation speaks to our clinic’s advanced capabilities to diagnose a wide range of fetal abnormalities and provide the appropriate care to high-risk mothers and babies,” said Dr. Christopher Robinson, MD, MSCR, FACOG, Perinatologist at East Cooper Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialists. “We are proud that our clinic has the ability to offer high-level and individualized care.”

Wayne O. Winney, DHA and CEO of Physician Operations for South Carolina and Senior Regional Director of Physician Operations said, “This accreditation is a testament to the practice’s commitment to continuously enhancing its offerings to better serve area families.”

According to the AIUM, East Cooper Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialists achieved this recognition by meeting rigorous voluntary guidelines set by the diagnostic ultrasound profession. All facets of the practice were assessed, including the training and qualifications of physicians and sonographers; ultrasound equipment maintenance; documentation; storage, and record-keeping practices; policies and procedures to protect patients and staff; quality assurance methods; and the thoroughness, technical quality and interpretation of the sonograms the practice performs.
