Jim Newsome's contributions for the South Carolina Ports are many and recently fetched the SCP president and CEO the honor of being inducted into the 2021 International Maritime Hall of Fame, according to a SCP press release.
"The inductees are industry leaders representing a broad spectrum of the global shipping industry. They have won the respect of the international shipping community based on their successes and professionalism and are much deserving of this distinguished honor," Edward Kelly, executive director of the Maritime Association of the Port of New York and New Jersey, said in the release.
According to the release, other 2021 inductees include Lois K. Zabrocky, Dr. Nikolas P. Tsakos, James R. Mara, and Lisa Lutoff-Perlo.
Newsome's - SCP president - noteworthy career comprises of several strategic decisions that he made, which enabled the cargo base of the South Carolina ports to grow over the decade, and the volume has almost doubled.
Under Newsome's 12-year leadership, SCP was able to open the first container terminal in the U.S. in March, according to the release.
