Lander University issued the following announcement on September 27.
Lander University students discuss one of numerous watercolors on display in an exhibition of works by Guy Lipscomb. Lipscomb, who became an accomplished painter in later life, was also a business owner, chemist, civic leader, philanthropist, author, teacher, and a driving force behind the establishment of the South Carolina State Museum. A recipient of the Order of the Palmetto, he also received the prestigious American Watercolor Society Award, and was the 1982 winner of the Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Award, the highest honor for art in the state of South Carolina. The exhibition of works by Lipscomb will be on display at Lander’s Monsanto Gallery through Wednesday, Oct. 13.
