Gov. Henry McMaster alongside Lt. Governor Pamela Evette and members of the South Carolina General Assembly, recently signed a ceremonial bill for the State Aviation Fund at Spartanburg Downtown Memorial Airport.

As part of Aviation Week, Aug. 15-21, the bill is designed to help fund the state's airports and to celebrate the impact of airports and the aviation industry, according to WSPA-TV News.

“In honor of #SouthCarolinaAviationWeek, Gov. @HenryMcMaster ceremoniously signed S.675, which ensures all state airports will receive the tax-generated funding they are entitled. This also allows funds to be used to develop airports in counties that do not have an airport…one of which is Cherokee County. Thank you to Sen. Josh Kimbrell and everyone in attendance today who helped make this happen," state Senate President Harvey Peeler tweeted.

South Carolina has six commercial airports, 58 general aviation airports, and five military airfields, according to Count On 2 TV, with $16.3 billion annually comes directly from the aviation industry, contributing heavily to the state economy.

“Airports are crucial to South Carolina’s growth and foster economic development across the state. The bill recently passed by the legislature will ensure all airports within the state airport system receive the tax-generated funding to which they are entitled," Spartanburg Downtown Memorial Airport Director Terry Connorton told WSPA-TV News.
