Former U.S. Attorney Peter M. McCoy has been officially confirmed in his position of chairman at Santee Cooper.
Santee Cooper is South Carolina's state-owned electric and water utility, the state's largest power provider and one of the nation's largest public power utilities.
McCoy was nominated for the position in April by Gov. Henry McMaster.
"Thank you @henrymcmaster for your confidence in me with your nomination & thank you to the SC Senate for your trust in me through my unanimous confirmation," McCoy wrote in a June 30 Twitter post. "Very much looking forward to working for best interests of @santeecooper & the SC ratepayers."
As Charleston-area attorney, McCoy was chosen by President Donald Trump to serve as the U.S. attorney for the District of South Carolina in 2020.
“It is my honor to nominate Peter McCoy to serve as chairman of Santee Cooper’s Board of Directors,” McMaster said in April. “I am confident that he is the right man to protect our state’s ratepayers and taxpayers, to bring much-needed transparency and accountability to the Board of Directors, and to lead Santee Cooper fairly and honestly while the General Assembly determines its fate.”
Prior to serving as U.S. attorney, McCoy was elected in 2010 to represent the people of District 115 in Charleston County in the state House of Representatives, and in 2018, McCoy was elected to serve as chairman of the S.C. House of Representatives’ Judiciary Committee.
