Robert "Bobby" Hitt, III, has served South Carolina as the state's secretary of commerce for the last decade, and recently hung up his hat at the Department of Commerce when he retired at 71 last month.

The state department he ran for a little more than 10 years and current Gov. Henry McMaster wished him a "happy retirement" via Twitter.

"Thank you, Bobby, for your service to South Carolina as Secretary of Commerce," McMaster tweeted July 1. "Our state is thankful for your leadership and I appreciate everything you have done to make South Carolina a better place. Happy retirement!"

Hitt was appointed by then-Gov. Nikki Haley as the secretary of commerce in January of 2011, according to Hitt's Wikipedia page.

According to the same website, Hitt is a native of Charleston.

Hitt was born to a family of journalists, and he followed in his father and grandfather's footsteps at the start of his professional career and spent 17 years as a reporter himself. 

Before going to work for the Department of Commerce, Hitt also served as an executive on the BMW plant in Spartanburg County, Wikipedia said.
