Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) called on the Democrats to immediately halt the impeachment of former President Donald Trump.
Graham emphasized that no witnesses were called during the House impeachment and calling one at the Senate trial would mean opening up a pandora's box.
“To my Democratic colleagues, if you try to call one witness, you’re going to blow up the United States Senate. Don’t do that. Let’s get this travesty over with, quick,” Graham told Fox News, The Epoch Times reported.
The senator also said that he does not want to legitimize the impeachment that was conducted in the U.S. House of Representatives where 232 voted to move forward with an impeachment trial, which is slated next week.
“The President of the United States was impeached in less than 50 hours, without one witness being called and he did not have a lawyer.” Graham is hoping that the trial will be based on facts and not on witnesses.
He also believes that it could have been easy for President Biden to say that it is wrong to impeach a president that has already left his office and that we could move forward as a nation.
Pushing through with the trial is like opening up a can of worms according to Graham.
"If you open that can of worms, we’ll want the FBI to come in and tell us about how people pre-planned this attack and what happened with the security footprint at the Capitol,” Graham also said.
