Fresh on the Menu has launched the People’s Choice Awards to recognize restaurants in South Carolina that emphasize local ingredients and support state farmers. The initiative is part of Certified South Carolina, a program by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture, aimed at promoting eateries that source at least 25% of their ingredients locally.

“This competition is a fun way to celebrate your favorite chefs and restaurants for their commitment to using fresh, locally sourced ingredients on their menus,” stated Grace Heins, Fresh on the Menu Program Manager at the South Carolina Department of Agriculture. “By voting in the Fresh on the Menu People’s Choice Awards, diners can support businesses that champion farmers, while also encouraging other restaurants to join the movement to promote locally sourced food and our state’s farming community.”

Starting February 3, diners can cast votes online daily for their preferred restaurant in each of four regions: Lowcountry, Midlands, Pee Dee, and Upstate. Voting concludes on February 21 with winners announced on February 26.

Additionally, the South Carolina Department of Agriculture will present one restaurant with the Martin L. Eubanks Award for exceptional dedication to supporting local farmers.
