South Carolina women’s tennis team falls to North Carolina in NCAA Tournament

The South Carolina women’s tennis team lost to North Carolina, 4-0, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on May 2.

The match took place in Chapel Hill, where South Carolina entered as the No. 32 seed and faced No. 5 North Carolina. The result ended South Carolina’s run in this year’s tournament.

In doubles play, Jane Dunyon and Sara Borkop were first to finish for South Carolina but lost their match on court three by a score of 6-0. Lauren Friedman and Helena Buchwald fought back from an early deficit but trailed when play was halted. North Carolina clinched the doubles point with a win over Kaitlyn Carnicella and Jana Stojanova on court two, finishing at 6-1.

During singles competition, South Carolina struggled early by dropping the first set on all six courts. North Carolina secured victories on courts one, five, and six to close out the overall match at 4-0. Notable results included Reese Brantmeier defeating Kaitlyn Carnicella (6-2, 6-3), Anna Frey beating Jane Dunyon (6-1, 6-1), and Thea Rabman winning against Lauren Friedman (6-3, 6-2).

The loss marks the end of South Carolina’s participation in this season’s NCAA Tournament.
