South Carolina Track & Field achieved three wins and set seven new Top 10 program marks at the Tom Jones Memorial meet in Gainesville, Florida, on April 18.

The results highlight strong performances from both the men’s and women’s teams as they prepare for upcoming competitions. The meet featured notable achievements that contributed to South Carolina’s track and field legacy.

A new program record was established by the women’s 4×400 meter relay team of Akala Garrett, JaMeesia Ford, Cynteria James, and Zaya Akins. Their time of 3:23.42 not only secured a win but also marked the second fastest relay time in the NCAA this season. In addition, the women’s 4×100 meter relay team—composed of Alexis Brown, James, Joslyn Hamilton, and Ford—won their event with a time of 42.62 seconds. This matched the fastest mark in the NCAA this year and was also the second fastest in school history.

Individually, Alexis Brown and Cynteria James tied for third place in the women’s invitational 100 meters with times of 11.04 seconds each—a season best for both athletes. Brown’s performance moved her into fourth place all-time at South Carolina. Joslyn Hamilton delivered a personal best in the women’s invitational hurdles finals with a wind-legal time of 12.93 seconds to finish as runner-up.

On the men’s side, Josiah Wrice won the invitational section of the men’s 400 meters with a personal best time of 44.72 seconds while Devan Crumpton finished second at his first sub-45-second run (44.93), ranking them third and fourth respectively on South Carolina’s all-time list.

Looking ahead, South Carolina will compete next week at Auburn’s Tiger Track Classic—the venue for this year’s Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championship scheduled for May.
