South Carolina State will aim to maintain its position in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) race as it faces North Carolina Central in a three-game softball series at Thomas Brooks Park this weekend, according to an April 25 announcement.

The outcome of this series is important for both teams as they approach the end of MEAC regular season play. South Carolina State is currently tied for third place in the conference standings with a record of 10-8 in MEAC play and an overall record of 18-18. North Carolina Central holds a conference record of 5-13 and an overall mark of 7-38.

The series will begin on Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. and approximately 3 p.m., followed by a single game on Sunday at noon, which coincides with Senior Day. The results will determine qualification for the upcoming MEAC Tournament, set to take place May 6-9 in Norfolk, Virginia. Only the top six teams from the conference will advance to compete.

Key players highlighted include Suttles and Bailey from North Carolina Central’s outfield; Suttles leads her team with a .357 batting average and has driven in 20 runs while stealing eleven bases, while Bailey tops her squad in hits (48), runs scored (26), stolen bases (12), and ranks second in batting average (.338). For South Carolina State, one player bats .392 with ten home runs and forty-four RBIs, while another has tallied thirty runs scored and seventeen RBIs.

Following this weekend’s action, South Carolina State is scheduled to conclude its regular season against Southeastern Conference opponent South Carolina on Tuesday, April 28 at Columbia.

South Carolina State University fields fourteen NCAA Division I athletic programs competing primarily within the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
