South Carolina State University announced on April 29 that its men’s tennis team will face the University of Central Florida in the opening round of the Men’s NCAA Tennis Championship at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.

The match is significant as South Carolina State secured its place in the tournament by winning its sixth consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) title. The team has a season record of 13 wins and 7 losses. Their opponent, UCF, holds a record of 20 wins and 6 losses and recently competed in the Big 12 Championship Tournament, where they were narrowly defeated by ninth-ranked Arizona with a score of 3-4.

The first-round matches are scheduled for Friday, May 1. The contest between South Carolina State and UCF will take place at 5:00 PM on North Collegiate Courts (7-12), following an earlier match between Florida and Stetson at 2:00 PM. Winners from both matches will compete on Saturday, May 2 at 5:00 PM for advancement to later rounds.

According to South Carolina State University, practice sessions for participating teams are set for Wednesday, April 29 and Thursday, April 30 from 3:45 PM to 5:45 PM each day on North Collegiate Courts (7-12). Each team is allotted a two-hour block per day under NCAA regulations.

South Carolina State fields athletic teams in fourteen sports as part of its Division I program. Most teams compete within the MEAC conference except women’s soccer. The university encourages fans to follow Bulldog athletics online through their official website or social media channels including Facebook (/SCStateAthletics), Twitter (@SCStateAthletic), Instagram (/SCStateAthletics), and YouTube (@scstateathletics1205).

As preparations continue ahead of Friday’s opening round matchup against UCF, both teams look to advance further into this year’s NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship.
