The South Carolina softball team lost the second game of its series against Missouri, 5-0, on April 18. The Gamecocks now have a record of 25-21 overall and 4-13 in conference play, while the Tigers improved to 24-23 overall and 7-10 in conference.

The outcome leaves South Carolina looking for answers after being shut out by Missouri. The result impacts their position in the standings as they seek to improve their performance late in the season.

Kai Byars led South Carolina with two doubles, marking her second multi-hit game this season and her first with multiple extra-base hits. Despite Byars’s efforts, the Gamecocks were unable to score. Their best chance came in the third inning when Byars doubled and Shae Anderson followed with a bunt single. However, a double play on a potential sacrifice fly ended that scoring opportunity.

Missouri scored its first run in the third inning without recording a hit and added four more runs in the fourth inning. Emma Friedel took the loss for South Carolina, allowing one run on no hits over three and one-third innings while striking out six batters and walking three.

The final game of the series is scheduled for tomorrow at 2 p.m. Eastern Time.
