The South Carolina Gamecocks baseball team will conclude its nine-game homestand by hosting The Citadel at Founders Park on April 28. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m., with the game available for streaming on SEC Network Plus and radio coverage provided by the Gamecock Sports Network presented by Learfield.
This matchup marks an important opportunity for both teams as they continue their seasons. Fans attending the game are reminded that all gameday parking lots will be cashless, requiring a debit or credit card for entry.
The probable pitching matchup features Josh Gunther (2-3, 7.75 ERA) starting for South Carolina and Trip Brown (1-3, 5.23 ERA) taking the mound for The Citadel. The Bulldogs recently won two out of three games against UNC Greensboro, with Michael Gibson contributing three hits and three RBI in a decisive win. Jayden Williams leads The Citadel with a .291 batting average, while Zach Hunt has driven in 33 runs this season.
South Carolina holds a historical advantage over The Citadel in their series, leading 145-51-1 overall and maintaining an 83-18-1 record when playing at home in Columbia. However, The Citadel claimed victory in their first meeting this season with an 8-3 win on March 10.
Ethan Lizama has been a key offensive contributor recently for the Gamecocks, hitting four home runs over the last seven games—including a grand slam during Friday’s win over Kentucky—and now has totaled 17 RBI this season. In addition, catcher Talmadge LeCroy returned from injury to play his fifth year at South Carolina and delivered eight hits along with five RBI during the Kentucky series.
Following Tuesday’s contest against The Citadel, South Carolina will travel to Baton Rouge to face LSU in a three-game Southeastern Conference series beginning Friday.
