The University of South Carolina baseball team reported on May 4 that it lost all four of its games during the past week, including a defeat to The Citadel and three consecutive losses to Louisiana State University.
The results leave the Gamecocks with an overall record of 22 wins and 27 losses, and a Southeastern Conference record of 7-17. The team is currently on a five-game losing streak.
During last week’s matchups, South Carolina fell to The Citadel by a score of 0-4 on April 28. In Baton Rouge over the weekend, the Gamecocks lost three times to LSU: once by a score of 1-6 and again by scores of 3-7 and 0-7.
Josh Gregoire pitched in his hometown at LSU on Sunday, delivering one and one-third scoreless innings with one hit allowed and one strikeout. Over the season, Gregoire has made seventeen appearances with twenty-six strikeouts in just over twenty innings pitched. Tyler Bak hit his sixth home run this season during Saturday’s game against LSU; he now has sixteen extra-base hits and twenty-seven runs batted in for the year.
The team will not play any midweek games due to final exams but will return for a series against Alabama at Founders Park this coming weekend. Friday’s and Saturday’s contests will be broadcast on SEC Network, while Saturday will also mark Senior Day for five graduating players.
