Governor Henry McMaster has declared a State of Emergency in response to the Table Rock Fire in Pickens County, South Carolina. The executive order, numbered 2025-14, aims to support ongoing efforts to control the fire and includes a ban on outdoor burning until further notice.
Governor McMaster emphasized the need for quick mobilization of resources to protect lives and property as the wildfire spreads. “As this wildfire continues to spread, the State of Emergency allows us to mobilize resources quickly and ensure our firefighters have the support they need to protect lives and property,” he stated. He also warned that anyone violating the burning ban would face legal consequences: “Given the elevated risk of wildfires throughout the state, the statewide burning ban will remain in effect until further notice. Anyone who violates this ban can and will go to jail.”
The fire began on Friday and has already affected over 35 acres. Efforts to contain it involve personnel from various organizations including the South Carolina Forestry Commission (SCFC), The Nature Conservancy, Greenville Water, USDA Forest Service, and local fire departments.
Aviation support is being provided by four aircraft: one SCFC airplane for surveying, two SCFC single-engine air tankers for water drops, and a SLED helicopter equipped with a Bambi bucket.
On March 21, 2025, a State Forester’s Burning Ban was issued by the South Carolina Forestry Commission for all counties. This prohibits all forms of outdoor burning such as yard debris burning, prescribed burns, and campfires.
SCFC Fire Chief Darryl Jones urged residents to comply with the ban due to heightened wildfire risks: “We always urge all South Carolinians to stay vigilant against wildfire, but the best way people can do that right now is to take seriously – and abide by – the Forestry Commission’s current statewide burning ban.”
In addition, South Carolina State Parks announced that all trails at Table Rock State Park are closed until further notice. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through local media channels and report any debris fires immediately.
