The University of South Carolina baseball team won against Kentucky, 10-9, on April 24 in the first game of their Southeastern Conference series at Founders Park.
The game saw South Carolina take an early lead with five runs in the first inning, highlighted by a grand slam from Ethan Lizama. Will Craddock, Tyler Bak, and Talmadge LeCroy contributed hits before Lizama’s home run. Kentucky responded quickly by scoring four runs in the second inning to tie the score.
South Carolina regained the lead in the third when KJ Scobey hit his eighth home run of the season. Dawson Harman added two more home runs—one each in the fifth and seventh innings—and LeCroy drove in another run with a double in the eighth. These plays provided important insurance as Kentucky made a late push in the ninth inning.
Parker Marlatt entered during a tense ninth inning and secured his first save after getting two key outs to end Kentucky’s rally. Cooper Parks earned the win for South Carolina after pitching 3.2 innings with three strikeouts and allowing only one hit.
Bak, LeCroy, and Harman each recorded two hits for South Carolina while Lizama led with four runs batted in. The teams combined for six errors over nine innings and both sides used several pitchers throughout the night.
South Carolina will continue its three-game series against Kentucky on Saturday afternoon with a scheduled start time of 1 p.m., streamed on SEC Network Plus.
