U.S. Senators Tim Scott, Ted Cruz, John Cornyn, and Roger Wicker have reintroduced the Protect LNG Act in Washington. The legislation aims to ensure that courts cannot vacate previously authorized LNG permits, clarifies the venue for LNG lawsuits before federal courts, and mandates expedited court decisions in relevant cases.
Senator Scott emphasized the importance of the act for American energy stability: “The Protect LNG Act is about bringing certainty back to American energy. Radical activists are using the courts to block or delay key energy projects that have already been approved—ultimately threatening jobs, driving up costs, and undermining our national security,” he stated. He added that this legislation would provide stronger protections for South Carolina’s role in energy exports and its port economy.
Senator Cruz highlighted Texas’s role as a leading exporter of U.S. LNG: “American energy has the ability to metaphorically and literally power the world, and Texas is the lead exporter of U.S. LNG.” He criticized fringe environmental groups for their legal challenges against energy producers and urged swift Senate action on the bill.
Senator Cornyn noted the significance of oil and natural gas production to Texas’s economy: “Oil and natural gas production employs hundreds of thousands of hardworking Texans and is a critical part of the Texas economy.” He expressed pride in co-leading this bill with Senator Cruz to protect energy projects from lawsuits filed by climate activists.
Senator Wicker underscored America’s abundance of LNG as crucial for national security: “The United States has an abundance of LNG, which is essential for establishing American energy dominance.” He committed to defending energy job creators against politicization by environmental groups.
In addition to Senate efforts, Representative Wesley Hunt introduced companion legislation in the House of Representatives.
