U.S. Senator Tim Scott, along with Senators Jim Risch and Mark Warner, has introduced a resolution designating December 2, 2024, as World Nuclear Energy Day. The initiative aims to recognize the development of nuclear energy technology and its role in supporting the U.S. economy and global energy reliability.
Senator Scott emphasized South Carolina’s reliance on nuclear power: “Because of innovation and energy ingenuity, over 50 percent of South Carolina is powered by nuclear energy! Our advancements in the energy sector have created a pathway to securing energy independence and leading on the world stage. I am glad to join my colleagues to commemorate World Nuclear Energy Day.”
Senator Risch highlighted the growing interest in nuclear power: “Enthusiasm for nuclear energy is at an all-time high, and we must keep this momentum going,” he stated. He also praised the achievements of Idaho National Lab in maintaining U.S. leadership in this field.
Senator Warner underscored the importance of nuclear power: “Nuclear energy is critical to meeting U.S. and global energy demands,” he said. He expressed pride in celebrating World Nuclear Energy Day with Senator Risch while acknowledging progress within the industry.
The resolution was supported by several other senators including Mike Crapo, Dick Durbin, Mike Braun, Chris Coons, Thom Tillis, Sheldon Whitehouse, Joe Manchin, Roger Marshall, Cory Booker, and Cynthia Lummis.
December 2 is significant for advancements in nuclear technology. The Senate Advanced Nuclear Caucus highlights the essential role of nuclear power in America while exploring new technologies and promoting industry priorities.
