U.S. Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina has joined Senator Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming in introducing a resolution to establish October 4, 2025, as National Energy Appreciation Day. The initiative aims to recognize the contributions of energy producers and workers across the country.

“Across South Carolina and the nation, energy producers and workers power our homes, support our economy, and safeguard our national security,” said Senator Scott. “On National Energy Appreciation Day, we recognize their dedication to providing reliable and affordable energy that families depend on every day. I am pleased to cosponsor this resolution and celebrate America’s energy producers for their hard work and vital role in modern life.”

Senator Lummis stated, “This is the time for American energy dominance. After a four-year war on the west, President Trump unleashed American energy, opening our lands and resources to production and empowering our workers. I am proud to lead my colleagues in introducing this resolution that celebrates American energy independence, and the men and women throughout the west who are powering our lives.”

Industry leaders from South Carolina expressed support for the resolution. Tim Pearson, President of Duke Energy South Carolina, commented: “The hardworking men and women of Duke Energy are laser focused on ensuring 24/7 reliability while keeping costs as low as possible for our nearly 860,000 customers in the Palmetto State. Senator Scott has a long record of leadership in working to promote policies that help ensure we have the tools necessary to meet these challenges every day. We appreciate his support for the energy workforce of South Carolina and look forward to continuing to work together so that we can best serve our customers in the years to come.”

Mike Brenan, President and CEO of South Carolina Chamber of Commerce added: “South Carolina’s continued economic growth depends on affordable and reliable energy produced right here in the Palmetto State. That’s why we are proud to celebrate our energy producers, and the hardworking men and women who keep the lights on every day, on this National Energy Appreciation Day.”

Ethel Bunch, Founder of Palmetto Nuclear Coalition said: “The Palmetto Nuclear Coalition applauds Senator Scott’s leadership in recognizing National Energy Appreciation Day. South Carolina is home to some of the nation’s most important nuclear assets, powering more than half of our state’s electricity, and this resolution highlights both the contributions of our workforce today and the potential for nuclear innovation to drive our energy future. We look forward to continuing to work with Senator Scott to advance policies that strengthen South Carolina’s leadership in nuclear energy.”

Other senators cosponsoring this legislation include John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), John Hoeven (R-N.D.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), Jim Justice (R-W.Va.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), and Jim Risch (R-Idaho).
