At a recent Invest in Education Coalition event, U.S. Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina highlighted the importance of school choice during National School Choice Week. As co-chair of the Congressional School Choice Caucus and a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, Scott emphasized parental rights to select schools that align with their children’s unique talents and needs.

Senator Scott introduced the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA) alongside HELP Committee Chairman Bill Cassidy from Louisiana. The proposed legislation aims to broaden educational opportunities by offering charitable donation incentives for individuals and businesses. These incentives would fund scholarships covering expenses related to K-12 public and private education.

In his remarks, Senator Scott stated, “Let us [now] do our part as citizens of this great nation, to make available to some of the brightest kids that grew up in neighborhoods like I did…Let’s not let those kids down. They can’t afford a lobbyist, but they have you. And that’s enough.”

The ECCA seeks to enhance education freedom by facilitating access to necessary resources for students through community support.
