U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) issued a statement on the first anniversary of Hurricane Helene, which struck South Carolina in September 2024. The senator acknowledged the lives lost and praised the efforts of first responders and community members who aided those affected by the storm.
“It’s been one year since Hurricane Helene devastated communities across South Carolina, from Aiken County to the Upstate. We remember the families who lost loved ones, the first responders who risked everything to save others, and the neighbors who stepped up when it mattered most.
“As we honor the lives lost and the resilience of South Carolinians who continue to rebuild their lives, I remain committed to securing the resources our communities need not just to recover, but to rebuild even stronger than before.”
Senator Scott also noted that with new storms forming off the South Carolina coast and a possible federal government shutdown looming on October 1, 2025, his office would continue to assist constituents. He encouraged residents to prepare for potential weather emergencies and directed them to disaster preparedness information at www.scott.senate.gov/disaster-resources.
The senator has taken steps over the past year to secure federal support for those impacted by Hurricane Helene and help communities recover from its effects.
