U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) has issued a statement to mark the second anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel that occurred on October 7, 2023. The attack resulted in the deaths of more than 1,200 civilians, including over 40 Americans, and led to 251 hostages being taken, among them 12 Americans. Thousands were injured during the incident.

In his statement, Senator Scott said: “Two years ago today, the world watched in horror as Hamas terrorists carried out a barbaric and unprovoked attack on Israel.

“In an unspeakable atrocity against humanity, Hamas murdered more than 1,200 innocent civilians, including more than 40 Americans, and took 251 hostages, among them 12 Americans. Thousands more were injured, and families and communities were shattered.

“As we honor the memories of those who were murdered, I commend President Trump’s bold leadership as we work to secure the release of hostages still held captive by Hamas.

“I will continue working to make sure the United States stands firmly with our great friend, Israel, in its fight for the right to exist and to root out antisemitism wherever it rears its ugly head.”

The anniversary comes as efforts continue to secure the release of hostages still held by Hamas.
