U.S. Senator Tim Scott has introduced the High-Quality Charter Schools Act, aiming to expand school choice by offering a tax credit for contributions to nonprofit charter school organizations. The proposed legislation seeks to address the high demand for quality charter schools, which is hindered by significant start-up costs ranging from $2 to $20 million.

The act proposes a 75% federal tax credit for charitable donations made to nonprofit charter school organizations with a proven track record of excellence. This initiative is intended to support the growth and expansion of high-quality charter schools across the nation.

Senator Scott stated, “No matter their background, race or zip-code, every child deserves access to a good school. Millions of families—including thousands across South Carolina—choose charter schools for the high-quality education they provide.” He emphasized that this legislation aligns with President Trump’s commitment to prioritize families and fulfill promises made.

Eva Moskowitz, CEO and President of National Strategy and Advancement and Founder of Success Academy, expressed her support: “Millions of parents whose children have been trapped in failing schools have reason for hope today, thanks to Senator Tim Scott.” She highlighted that this legislative effort represents an opportunity for Congress to advance universal school choice.

Starlee Coleman, President and CEO of the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, also voiced appreciation: “We are grateful to Senator Scott and Congresswoman Tenney for championing school choice and recognizing the value of high-quality public charter schools.”

Senator Scott’s role as co-chair of the Congressional School Choice Caucus and member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee underscores his commitment to transforming education in America. His previous efforts include introducing the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA) aimed at expanding educational freedom.
