U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) issued a statement following the Senate’s failure to pass a short-term funding bill. The continuing resolution did not receive enough votes, ending with a 55–45 result in the Senate.

Senator Scott said, “Republicans have stood resolute in voting to keep our government open and ensure essential services remain available for the American people.

“Democrats chose to shut down the federal government, putting American families and workers last.

“While Democrats play politics with government funding, I remain committed to advancing fiscally responsible, commonsense solutions that put South Carolinians and Americans first.”

The vote was led by Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats against what Scott described as a clean funding bill. The outcome means federal agencies may face operational disruptions until an agreement is reached.
