U.S. Senator Tim Scott from South Carolina has reintroduced the Securing Our Border Act, a legislative proposal aimed at redirecting funds initially allocated for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to strengthen border security. The proposal seeks to transfer unobligated funds from the IRS enforcement account, originally intended for hiring 87,000 additional IRS agents, to enhance the southern border’s integrity.

Senator Scott criticized President Biden’s decision to increase IRS resources during what he described as a crisis at the southern border. “Without borders, a nation is not a nation. President Biden’s ill-advised decision to supercharge the IRS while we had a crisis on our southern border couldn’t have been more out-of-touch or unnecessary,” stated Senator Scott. He further commented on former President Trump’s recent actions: “In just two weeks back in office, President Trump has signaled to the world that he is serious about securing our border and restoring peace and order in our communities.”

The legislation was first introduced by Senator Scott during the 118th Congress after the Biden administration announced plans for expanding IRS personnel amid rising illegal crossings at the southern border.

The full text of this proposed legislation is available online.
