Yesterday, U.S. Senator Tim Scott engaged in a discussion with Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. during a Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions hearing. The conversation covered topics such as minority health, sickle cell anemia, and food dyes.
Senator Scott expressed gratitude to Secretary Kennedy for addressing issues critical to many people, particularly African Americans. He emphasized that sickle cell anemia is an example of a health issue with racial implications but clarified it should not be conflated with diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
Regarding food dyes, Senator Scott commended Secretary Kennedy’s efforts to address the impact of the food supply on chronic diseases. He praised the FDA’s recent approval of three new natural color additive petitions and acknowledged Kennedy’s commitment to reforming the food industry by eliminating petroleum-based additives in favor of natural alternatives.
