Today, Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) commended President Donald J. Trump for signing an executive order designed to enhance the role of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) as centers of educational and economic advancement. Senator Scott emphasized the importance of HBCUs, stating, “HBCUs across the country continue to be first-class institutions.”

The executive order focuses on expanding the measures implemented during President Trump’s first term, which prioritized substantial federal funding and decreased bureaucratic challenges for HBCUs. It further aims to strengthen collaborations between federal entities and HBCUs.

Senator Scott has been a proponent for HBCUs, advocating for their support and development through initiatives like the HBCU PARTNERS Act. This act intends to bolster connections between federal agencies and these colleges.

Moreover, Senator Scott was instrumental in the passage of the FUTURE Act, which secured $255 million annually for HBCUs and Minority-Serving Institutions. This funding is pivotal for the schools’ long-term financial health, enabling investments in educational programs, facilities, and student services.

These efforts have fostered a period of growth for HBCUs, ensuring they remain influential in producing future leaders and contributing positively to society.
