U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina has expressed his support for U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik, who has been nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Following a meeting with Stefanik, Graham released a statement highlighting her qualifications and shared perspectives.
Graham, who serves as the ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs, emphasized that American taxpayer dollars should not be used at the UN in ways that could undermine the United States or its allies.
“I had a very good meeting with Congresswoman Elise Stefanik regarding her nomination to be the United States Ambassador to the United Nations,” Graham stated. “She is well qualified and shares my view that American taxpayer dollars going to the UN cannot be used to undermine our country and our allies.”
Addressing concerns about perceived biases within the UN, particularly regarding Israel, Graham asserted that such practices would not receive future support. He called for a comprehensive review of U.S. involvement with the UN.
“It is long past time to take an in-depth look at U.S. support of the UN from top to bottom,” he added.
Graham expressed confidence in Stefanik’s ability to drive change within this international body: “Elise Stefanik will be a great partner and advocate in that endeavor. Business as usual regarding the U.S. and UN is about to change. Elise will be a strong supporter of President Trump’s agenda to bring about change.”
