U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, commented on April 3 regarding President Donald Trump’s Fiscal Year 2027 budget request.

Graham said the proposed budget includes a significant increase in defense spending, which he described as historic and justified by current global threats. This announcement is relevant due to ongoing discussions about national security funding and its impact on U.S. defense capabilities.

“President Trump’s budget is truly historic when it comes to defense spending. It is the most robust increase in defense spending in many years, and it is more than justified by the threats we face throughout the world,” Graham said. He also stated, “When it comes to our national security, President Trump and his team are second to none.”

Graham serves as chairman of the Senate Budget Committee and has served on other committees including Appropriations, Judiciary, and Environment and Public Works according to his official website. He has emphasized fiscal responsibility and national security during his tenure.

In addition to his legislative work, Graham retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserves after serving for 33 years as a colonel according to his official website. He grew up in Central, South Carolina in a blue-collar family that operated a local restaurant and pool hall according to his official website, and obtained both undergraduate and law degrees from the University of South Carolina according to his official website.

The statement reflects ongoing priorities around national security funding at a time when lawmakers are considering future government budgets.
