U.S. Senator Tim Scott, alongside Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and Ranking Member Dick Durbin, has announced the unanimous passage of a Senate resolution recognizing May 11 through 17 as National Police Week. This resolution underscores the Senate’s consistent support for law enforcement officers across the nation.

Senator Scott remarked on the dedication of law enforcement officers: “Every day, law enforcement officers encounter the most dangerous elements of society. Their dedication to the safety of their communities often comes at great personal sacrifice. We must be unwavering in our support of those who wear the badge.”

Senator Grassley highlighted the commitment of officers in his statement: “Law enforcement officers in Iowa and across the nation work tirelessly to protect and serve our communities. This week, and every week, we should give our thanks to the brave men and women in blue, who have sacrificed so much to ensure our safety. As always, I’m proud to back the blue and will continue my efforts in Congress to protect and support our courageous officers.”

Senator Durbin emphasized the risks faced by officers daily: “Every day, our country’s law enforcement officers put their lives at risk to keep us safe. Officers and their families make great sacrifices in the name of service, including the tragic cases of those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. We’re grateful for their heroism, and we must make sure that officers serving with dignity and integrity have the support and resources they need to do their jobs.”

The resolution was supported by 79 bipartisan senators including Lindsey Graham, Angus King, Ashley Moody, Catherine Cortez Masto, Susan Collins, Ben Ray Lujan, Tim Sheehy, Richard Blumenthal among others.

For over six decades, Congress has annually passed a resolution honoring law enforcement during National Police Week. This period serves as a time for Americans to pay tribute to courageous officers and remember fallen heroes.
