Today, the Senate Banking Committee, under the leadership of Chairman Tim Scott (R-S.C.), advanced several nominees put forward by President Trump for key positions within the administration and financial regulatory bodies. The nominees will now proceed to the Senate floor for further consideration.
The nominees include Mr. Andrew Hughes for Deputy Secretary at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Mr. David Woll as General Counsel at HUD, The Honorable Michelle Bowman for Vice Chairman for Supervision at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Mr. John Hurley as Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Crimes at the Department of the Treasury, Mr. David Fogel as Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Director General of the United States and Foreign Commercial Service at the Department of Commerce, and Mr. Landon Heid as an Assistant Secretary of Commerce.
Chairman Scott emphasized the importance of confirming qualified nominees swiftly: “Confirming nominees is one of the most important things we do here in this committee, so it is imperative that we continue to move at a rapid pace to get qualified nominees into the Executive Branch.”
Scott highlighted each nominee’s qualifications: “Mr. Andrew Hughes…brings a strong track record of operational leadership that will be instrumental in strengthening HUD’s efficiency,” while “Mr. David Woll…is well-positioned to provide…sound legal guidance.” Regarding Michelle Bowman, he stated she would “bring accountability and transparency to the Fed.”
For John Hurley, Scott noted his role in leading national security efforts: “Mr. John Hurley…is being called to lead one of our government’s most important national security and intelligence arms.” On David Fogel’s nomination, he said Fogel brings “a wealth of international business experience” essential for American competitiveness globally.
Finally, on Landon Heid’s nomination, Scott remarked on his expertise in maintaining U.S. technological advantages over competitors like China.
Scott concluded by affirming these nominees’ significance: “These nominees are not just capable but essential to our nation’s prosperity.”
