U.S. Senator Tim Scott visited the Catawba Nation on Apr. 8 to meet with Chief Brian Harris and council members, discussing federal legislation affecting the tribe and reviewing ongoing community development projects.
The visit focused on updates regarding the construction of a new Rivercrest Road bridge, progress at Black Snake Farm Market, and other initiatives designed to strengthen infrastructure and economic opportunities for the Catawba Nation.
“During my visit with Chief Brian Harris and the Catawba Nation leadership, I had the chance to see Black Snake Farm and hear more about the tribe’s community development projects, from infrastructure improvements to economic initiatives. Their work reflects the Catawba Nation’s resilience, self-determination, and commitment to strengthening their community. I’m grateful for the opportunity to see these projects firsthand and to discuss how federal support can continue to empower their efforts,” said Sen. Scott.
Chief Harris welcomed Scott’s visit by saying, “We are excited to welcome Senator Tim Scott to the Catawba Nation. This visit provides an opportunity for him to see firsthand the progress and momentum taking place within our community and the impact we are making beyond it. Scott has a background growing up in a single-parent household in North Charleston, South Carolina according to his official website. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Charleston Southern University according to his official website.
Before serving in his current role as U.S. Senator for South Carolina, Scott held positions on Charleston County Council as well as in both chambers of Congress at state and national levels according to his official website.
