U.S. Senator Tim Scott led members of the South Carolina delegation in a letter to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on Mar. 10, expressing strong support for the 2027 Military World Games, which will be hosted across South Carolina and North Carolina.
The lawmakers said the event is important for honoring America’s service members and highlighting South Carolina’s close relationship with the U.S. military. The letter was signed by Senators Scott and Lindsey Graham, as well as Representatives Sheri Biggs and Ralph Norman.
“Service members and their families are critically important to South Carolina from the Upstate to the Lowcountry,” the lawmakers wrote. “We are proud to welcome the Military World Games as an opportunity to celebrate their inspiring individual accomplishments and collective contributions to our great state.”
South Carolina hosts several major military installations, including Joint Base Charleston, Fort Jackson, Shaw Air Force Base, McEntire Joint National Guard Base, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, and Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort. These bases represent nearly every branch of the U.S. military.
Scott offers constituent services such as help with federal agencies and community resources for South Carolina residents, according to the official website (https://www.scott.senate.gov/). He also helped enact Opportunity Zones legislation in 2017 to encourage investment in distressed communities and promote private investment in economically challenged areas according to the official website (https://www.scott.senate.gov/).

The hosting of the Military World Games marks the first time this international event will take place in the United States.
