The South Carolina Department of Transportation announced on the National Day of Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Responder Training that it hosted a TIM training event in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration and the SC TIM Network.
The training brought together first responders and transportation professionals from across the Midlands, including law enforcement, fire and rescue, emergency medical services, towing and recovery, and transportation personnel. Participants engaged in collaborative, hands-on instruction designed to improve coordination at incident scenes and enhance safety for both responders and the traveling public.
“Traffic incident management is critical to keeping both our responders and motorists safe. Today’s training highlights the importance of strong partnerships and coordinated response efforts that help save lives, reduce congestion, and clear incidents more efficiently,” according to Kell Robinson, SCDOT TIM Program Manager.
The TIM program is led nationally by the Federal Highway Administration. It focuses on improving on-scene coordination, establishing safer traffic control measures, and promoting quick clearance strategies. Through classroom instruction and scenario-based exercises, participants learn best practices for safely and efficiently responding to crashes and roadway emergencies.
In South Carolina, the SC TIM Network plays a key role in advancing these efforts by bringing together local, state, and federal partners to promote ongoing training, share resources, and strengthen relationships among responder agencies. Trainings are offered 24 times a year throughout the state.
SCDOT said it remains committed to supporting initiatives like TIM training that enhance roadway safety, strengthen interagency partnerships, and improve overall efficiency of emergency response across South Carolina. More information can be found in the organization’s press release.
