The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has announced that it will begin nighttime paving operations on several streets in downtown Charleston starting July 20. The work is scheduled to occur nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and is expected to conclude by the morning of July 26.

The affected streets include Morris Street from King Street to Rutledge Avenue, Ashley Avenue from Kennedy Street to Moultrie Street, Race Street from King Street to Maranda Holmes Street, and Maranda Holmes Street from Congress Street to Sumter Street.

During the paving operations, traffic will be maintained but drivers should anticipate reduced speeds and possible delays. On-street parking will not be allowed during the specified hours, and towing will be enforced.

SCDOT advises drivers to consider alternate routes if possible and urges caution when driving through work zones. “Drivers are encouraged to slow down and pay attention to crews and signs,” SCDOT said.
