The South Carolina Department of Agriculture (SCDA) is organizing opportunities in May 2025 for the safe disposal of outdated, unusable, or unwanted pesticides. The program is open to all types of pesticide applicators in the state, including private, commercial, and non-commercial entities, as well as homeowners.

SCDA staff will oversee the collection and disposal of pesticides, having the final authority on accepting products. The event will accept up to 2500 pounds of solid and 300 gallons of liquid chemicals at no charge. Attendees with more than 30 gallons of liquid or 250 pounds of solid to dispose are advised to contact John Stokes at 803-737-9696 or jstokes@scda.sc.gov in advance.

Products accepted at the event include herbicides, insecticides, nematicides, fungicides, and similar items used in agriculture or around the home. Rinsate and fertilizers will not be accepted, unless the fertilizer is packaged with a pesticide like weed and feed. Additionally, compressed gas cylinders and empty pesticide containers are also not eligible for collection.

The collection events are scheduled for May 13, 2025, at Carolina Eastern Outdoors in Hollywood, SC, and May 14, 2025, at Mixon Seed Service in Orangeburg, SC. Both events will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In case of inclement weather, the event may be canceled, with notices being posted on SCDA’s website, agriculture.sc.gov. Possible makeup dates will be announced later.

For additional details, John Stokes can be reached at 803-737-9696 or jstokes@scda.sc.gov.
