The Presbyterian College baseball team lost to Tennessee by a score of 8-1 on May 5 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville. The Blue Hose, now holding a record of 10-39 overall and 6-12 in the Big South Conference, were unable to hold onto an early lead.
The game began with Matthew Rollison hitting a solo home run over the left field fence, giving Presbyterian an initial advantage. However, Tennessee responded with eight unanswered runs over the course of the contest.
Presbyterian managed to keep Tennessee scoreless through the first two innings. Mikey Marroquin Jr., making his first start of the season and fourth collegiate start overall, worked around early baserunners to keep the Volunteers off the board. Domaine Vann entered as pitcher in the second inning and struck out a batter with bases loaded to end that frame.
Tennessee took control by homering twice in the third inning for a 2-1 lead. The Blue Hose held their deficit at one run until Tennessee scored four times in the sixth inning and added two more runs in the eighth. Emory Guilford and Andrew Albertus recorded hits for Presbyterian alongside Rollison’s home run; Guilford also hit his team-leading thirteenth double of the year.
Nine different pitchers appeared for Presbyterian during Tuesday’s game, including Brody Linker, Mason McDaniel, and Tucker Meredith—each throwing scoreless relief innings out of the bullpen.
Looking ahead, Presbyterian will host USC Upstate for its final home series this weekend beginning Friday at 6:00 p.m.
