Presbyterian College announced on May 4 that its baseball team will travel to Knoxville for a game against Tennessee at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, scheduled for Tuesday, May 5 at 6:00 p.m.
The contest is one of the last midweek games for the Blue Hose this season and marks their third meeting with a Southeastern Conference opponent this year. Presbyterian currently holds a record of 10-38 overall and is 6-12 in Big South play, while Tennessee enters the game with a record of 31-17 overall and an 11-13 mark in SEC competition.
Recent performances by Presbyterian include a three-game series loss to The Citadel, but pitching showed improvement during Sunday’s doubleheader where only five runs were allowed across two games. Christian Charalambous pitched four scoreless innings in the first game on Sunday. Offensively, James Green leads the team with a .306 batting average, as well as leading in stolen bases and on-base percentage. Bo Moody and Matthew Rollison are also hitting above .300 this season.
Moody has received recognition as one of the most productive freshmen in the Big South Conference, being named Freshman of the Week twice and recently selected as a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award by the College Baseball Foundation. This award honors top shortstops nationally; Moody is one of only two freshmen among fifty semifinalists named.
Matthew Rollison achieved a notable performance earlier this season by tying Presbyterian’s Division I single-game home run record with three homers against Charleston Southern. He was recognized as Big South Player of the Week following that achievement. On pitching, Tyrell Williams leads Presbyterian in innings pitched and strikeouts so far this year.
Head coach Elton Pollock is guiding his squad through his twenty-second season at Presbyterian College. Last year he led them through what was described as one of their toughest non-conference schedules yet, including securing an upset win over No. 23 Alabama.
