The community is invited to visit “The Palmetto Luna’s Latino Arts Collection” on display at Lander University’s Jackson Library until December 15.

Presented by the South Carolina Commission for Minority Affairs, the exhibit is an initiative of Lander University’s El Puente Latino, a new program that provides educational resources and financial aid opportunities to the Hispanic community.
“We are very excited about bringing this exhibit to Lander University. This is a unique and amazing opportunity to give students and members of the community the opportunity to experience the magic of Latinx art.” said Cinthya Elizabeth Scott-Araiza, coordinator of Hispanic/Latinx Recruitment and Outreach at Lander University’s El Puente Latino. “We are working to create a welcoming environment for all communities within our university. This exhibit helps the Latinx community to feel represented and promotes a sense of belonging.”
The selections exhibited as part of the Palmetto Luna’s Latino Arts Collection include the works of 16 Latinx artists from different Latin American countries including: Argentina, Colombia, Honduras, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. Their styles range from traditional acrylics on canvas to clay sculptures, lithographs, watercolors, digital illustrations and folk art. The participating artists have ages ranging from 17 to 71 and a very diverse level of artistic expertise and educational backgrounds.
Some of the presented works tell stories of the yearning for social and economic justice, and gender equality. Other works present an approach to popular culture, folk traditions and heritage. The combination presents the viewer with an opportunity to witness the diversity within artistry in the SC Latinx community.
Participating artists include Alejandro Gracia-Lemos (Colombia), Aldo Muzzarelli (Venezuela), Pedro Rodriguez (Puerto Rico), Marcelo Novo (Argentina), Edgar Cano (Mexico), Sammy Lopez (Colombia/PR/USA), Sofia Isabelle (Mexico), David Rodriguez (Honduras/USA), Diana Farfan (Colombia), Zachary Diaz (USA), Orlando Corona (Mexico), Yelitza Diaz (Venezuela), Ivan segura (Mexico), Ernesto Hernandez (Mexico), Dre Lopez (Colombia/PR/USA) and Luz Celeste Figueroa (Venezuela)
